WSCAR Call to Action — Potential Hirst Fix in the State House
Update from Washington Realtors — April 5, 2017 —
Olympia, WA – March 6, 2017 — As most of our members know, the Senate passed SB 5239 (the “Hirst Fix” bill) by a vote of 28-21 on Tuesday, February 28th. The bill will then go to the House, where the committee hearings will resume on Thursday, March 9.
Once the committee hearings resume, Washington REALTORS® will send out a Call to Action message urging members to call their legislative representatives and let them know how important the issue is to us, and how much of a profound impact the bill can have on the real estate industry.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Hirst Decision, here is the REALTORS® statement:
“Our effort is based on ensuring that local governments can rely on regulations adopted by Ecology,
the state’s water resource agency. Cities and counties have no authority to implement the
state’s water code, and the Supreme Court’s decision that local governments have
independent water resource regulatory obligations under the GMA is simply wrong.”
Make sure to keep an eye out for the next Washington REALTORS Call to Action that will be sent out this week!
As stated by our Chapter President Craig Soehren, “As an association, involvement of the membership such as responding to “Call to Actions” is what lets our voice be heard in Olympia. Please take these emails seriously as we have often heard on the hill that they do make an impact.”
