LETTER FROM OUR CHAPTER PRESIDENT 2020

Updated: Mar 31, 2021

I would like to start by saying it is an honor to be your 2020 President. I am looking forward to a productive and successful year ahead!

As we begin a new year (and a new decade), the State Legislature will also kick off its session in Olympia. As part of the Washington REALTORS®, WSCAR will take part in Legislative Days on January 22nd and 23rd. The main issues we plan to discuss during our Hill visits will be around capital gains, B&O tax increases, rent control, and Dual Agency. WSCAR has successfully addressed these issues in the past because of support from members like you.

I heartily recommend that you attend this event and help to represent WSCAR. To learn more and to register to join us at this important event, please read on below. And whether or not you can make it, please reach out to your legislators now and tell them your thoughts on these upcoming tax issues, for both you and your clients. You can go here to get contact information on the people who represent your district.

In March, a joint delegation sponsored by Washington REALTORS® and WSCAR will be heading to MIPIM, one of the largest real estate conferences in the world, to promote Washington state from an international perspective in the Real Estate community. We are currently looking for sponsors and development projects that we can present to international investors interested in investing in the State of Washington. You can find more detailed information at the MIPIMWA website, and I encourage anyone who is interested in learning more to please reach out to me or a board member.

In May, we will be attending the Federal Legislative Days in Washington D.C. This conference gives Realtors a venue to voice our concerns on the national level. With this being an election year, our focus will shift to RPAC Fundraising and contributions. RPAC is paramount in our ability to have a voice on the State and Federal level to protect our interests in the business of Real Estate. I encourage all members to consider a contribution to RPAC.

Thanks again for the opportunity to serve you in the coming year. I look forward to working with you! Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Erik Nelson, SIOR
