UPDATE FROM THE CHAPTER PRESIDENT

Updated: Apr 1, 2021

Hello Members,

I hope you and your family are doing well and staying healthy during this COVID pandemic and time of civic unrest.

During this particularly tumultuous time, WSCAR would like to directly address the horrendous act that took the life of George Floyd, as well as countless others who have suffered from racial injustice.

As an organization, we condemn all racism and any intentional act against another human being. It is difficult to comprehend what is happening in our nation, but as an organization, we stand firmly with those who are speaking up for social justice and against inequality. Washington REALTORS and NAR are taking steps to make sure we are all able to do our part, both individually and within our firms, to support equality and end racism in our communities. Below you will find links to valuable training resources and educational materials available to all our members from NAR.

Over the past several months, we’ve also seen tremendous change in our industry. Due to COVID-19, all in-person conferences have been canceled, including the Spring and Fall Conferences for Washington REALTORS, the National REALTORS Legislative Conference in Washington D.C., and the MIPIM conference in Cannes France. As we have moved to virtual conferences, they have been well received and attendance has been high. NAR also continues to publish vast amounts of research and economic data on commercial real estate markets for members during this period of economic uncertainty. We’ve provided links to access this helpful information below.

I would also like to take a moment to thank the legislative affairs team from Washington REALTORS. During the COVID shutdown, the team has been doing everything possible to get Commercial Real Estate up and running in our state. In partnership with Washington REALTORS and CBA, Mary Hull-Drury, Denny Eliason, and Nathan Gorton have worked tirelessly with the Governor’s office to get REALTORS back to work. As we begin the process of reopening, we have also provided links below to regularly updated resources to help you move forward safely.

Lastly, 2020 is also a major election year for the State of Washington and the United States, with both the Governor’s and Presidential races taking place this November. In years like this, it is vitally important for our organization to have an impact on our future. Please take the time to register and to vote as these elections impact our legislative efforts and our industry. Please consider a contribution to RPAC, as well. Your investment goes directly to electing candidates who understand and support our interests.

Regards,

Erik Nelson, SIOR
